CITY SERVICES
Streets, signals & drainage
A pothole, a signal problem and a leaking water main can share a street while belonging to different service providers.
Find the right starting point01 · THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Who does what
San Rafael Public Works is the starting point for questions about City street infrastructure.
Water mains belong with the water provider; sanitary sewers belong with the applicable sewer agency. Stormwater drainage and wastewater collection are different systems.
02 · THE CONNECTIONS
Where the handoff happens
Record the location and describe what you see. Start with Public Works for City street issues, Marin Water for water service issues, or the sewer service guide for wastewater concerns. Use Caltrans for state highway questions.
03 · THE DECISIONS
How to follow the decisions
City infrastructure priorities are considered through public projects and City decisions. A service request identifies a maintenance issue; a capital project may require a separate planning and funding process.
